How do you get rid of a hot tub?

Moving a hot tub is a complicated, multi-step process. It requires a lot of specialized equipment, a great degree of caution, and lots of time. Hampton Roads Pickup Man has this all, but if you would like to know how it’s done, here are the steps:

First, hot tubs must be emptied out. This can be done with a electric utility pump

Once emptied, hot tubs need to be disconnected before moving. (We recommend hiring a electrician if you don’t feel completely comfortable capping off the leads.) To do this, you must first turn off the breaker to the hot tub. If you know which breaker to shut off already, you can just do so. Otherwise, you will need to identify the breaker with a special breaker probe, and you will also need a pair of alligator clips.

After the power has been shut off, always make sure to test the electricity with a multimeter or a voltage tester. After capping the leads with wire nuts, you should be safe to continue. It’s a must that you have a reciprocating saw handy to cut the hot tub into pieces. Make sure you wear proper safety gear such as a dust mask and closed toe shoes. You will not be able to lift it on your own or even with a couple guys. These hot tubs can weight 500+ lbs.
